In Association with Southall Black Sisters
Based on the true story of Kiranjit Ahluwalia who set her husband alight after ten brutal years with him. She was sentenced for murder in 1989 and after a three year campaign, Southall Black Sisters secured her release on the lesser charge of manslaughter.

This case brought about a significant shift in the way in which the homicide law was interpreted to take into account the violence suffered by women like Kiranjit. The campaign and the media coverage turned Southall Black Sisters (SBS) virtually into a household name. Kiranjit’s journey from victim to perpetrator neatly encapsulates the spectrum of work on gender based violence that SBS has covered.
